Beginning Hebrew: From Aleph to Tav

Beginning Hebrew: From Aleph to Tav

Weekly Class Every Monday with Chicago Loop Synagogue and Congregation Beth Shalom
Starting on Monday, February 27, 2023

Start at the beginning … or refresh your skills! This class will give you the skills and practice to become Hebrew readers. You will start by learning letters and vowels working up to reading words used in prayers that will be familiar to you. There will be an emphasis on the meaning of those words helping you to build your confidence level with Hebrew language and prayer and solidifying your ability to read.

Please note that you will be asked to read aloud in class and there will be an expectation that you will practice outside of class time.

We will also be using the book “Aleph Isn't Tough: An Introduction to Hebrew for Adults.” To purchase, click here.

About our instructor - Susan Stoehr grew up in Las Vegas, Nevada and went to college in California. When she began learning Hebrew at 24, after having not-much Jewish education, the fire was lit! Susan has loved Hebrew reading and studying since the beginning. She completed a Master’s degree in Jewish Education and Administration at the University of Judaism in California and studied at the Jewish Theological Seminary after meeting her husband, Steve, in Israel. Susan has taught Hebrew prayer and Bar/Bat Mitzvah students of all ages, 12 – 85, and would be thrilled to share her Hebrew passion with anyone who would like to learn. Susan lives in Northbrook with her husband, Steve, who has been the cantor of Congregation Beth Shalom for over thirty years. They have four adult children, Jacob and his wife Ilana, Talia, and Alana. She is also excited to be a new “Yaya” to adorable Liv Hazel!
