Jews have never ascribed to a doctrine of solascriptura, the Protestant claim that individuals reading the Bible could determine for themselves its practical and spiritual message. Rather, we have always studied Torah through the prism of rabbinic interpretations, first the classic midrashim of the rabbis, and then later interpretations of rabbis and scholars through the ages. Each week of this five-session class will focus on a Torah commentator and examine his or her historical context, method of interpretation, and a selection of some of their most "famous" comments.
Our course will meet on the following dates (all Mondays)

November 11, 2019 - Rashi

November 25, 2019 - Ramban

December 9, 2019 - Ibn Ezra and Rashbam

December 16, 2019 - Netziv

January 13, 2020 - Nechama Leibowitz

Cost is $15 - Includes a kosher lunch

All classes begin at 12 PM.
