The famous Silk Road was traveled from the early centuries of the CE. Merchants from the Middle East as well as Europe were the ones opening the trade routes to China and beyond. Among those travelers, Jewish merchants from Levant, Persia, and surrounding countries were prominent in the trade business. The Hebrew Scroll from the 8th Century CE found at the Mogao caves is a testament to the Jewish presence in China and on the Silk Road.
