11:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Join the American Zionist Movement and their 33 member organizations for a book launch of "Never Alone: Prison, Politics, and My People" by the former Refusenik, political prisoner, and Israeli cabinet member, Natan Sharansky, and the Zionist activist and American historian, Gil Troy.

"Never Alone" is essentially a modern Zionist manifesto. For starters, it tells one of the most inspiring Zionist stories of our time, the story of Anatoly Shcharansky, whose commitment to Zionism and his people helped him survive the Gulag and make it to freedom in Israel. The book is also a love letter to Israel and the Jewish people, a memoir of what it’s like to go from dictatorship to democracy, from prison into politics, and then from political deal-making into Jewish identity-building. Finally, the book is a primer, offering detailed analyses and arguments about how to cope with modern anti-Semitism and anti-Zionism, while always staying positive, balancing liberalism with nationalism, universalism with particularism, and remaining secure in the knowledge that, as a member of the Jewish people, wherever you are, whatever life throws at you, you have a support system, a community, frameworks for living -- you are Never Alone.
