The Approach of Treating Violence as a Health Epidemic Reduces Shootings and Killings by 40-70%

Implications for or communities and for stopping ethnic and religious violence

Cure Violence is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) considered to be one of the top ten NGOs in the world by “NGO Advisor.” It was founded by Dr. Gary Slutkin, who previously consulted with the World Health Organization (WHO) on the epidemics of tuberculosis, cholera and AIDS in East and Central Africa. Upon returning to the US in 1995, Dr. Slutkin discovered that by treating violence as a disease can reduce deadly shootings up to 70%. Today, there are over 100 Cure Violence communities in 25 cities across 15 countries. These include programs in the Middle East funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Dr. Slutkin will present his revolutionary methodology. He will discuss how his work can be successfully implemented to address violent crime here in Chicago. He will also discuss his work in Israel, the West Bank and other regions in the Middle East.

The cost for lunch is $15.
