The Great Action Begins: The Liquidation of Ghetto Warsaw as told by The Victims Presented by Michael Traison

Wednesday, August 28, 2019 27 Av 5779

12:00 PM - 1:00 PMChicago Loop Synagogue, 16 S. Clark

On Wednesday, July 21, 1942, the German authorities informed the Elder of Ghetto Warsaw Judenrat, Adam Czerniakow, that the next day he would cooperate in rounding up the 400,000 Jews of the Ghetto for the slaughter. Instead, he swallowed a cyanide capsule. The next morning the transports began as Jewish children and their parents and grandparents were brought to present day Stawki Street to a railroad spur called the Umszlagplatz to board cattle cars which to take them to Treblinka. In two months, between Tisha B’ Av July 22, 1942 and Yom Kippur on September 21, 1942, more than a quarter million human beings were murdered for one reason only:  guilty of being Jews.

Reading the diary of Dr. Avraham Lewin, Cup of Tears, the Ringleblum Archives and many more records of those terrible days our souls stand with their souls on Ekectralna, Orla, and Karmelicka Streets as we try, but fail, to understand the terror.

The cost to attend is $15 which includes a kosher lunch.
